Eleven of the group of 22 opened to take the extension to Stockholm,
Up at 5:15am, shuttle to Oslo airport to catch the 9:25 am flight from Oslo to Stockholm. We were met by a driver and a guide. We had an extensive city tour including two stops. We can share some of the photos to give you an idea of Stockholm but we are not able to identify them all.
Stockholm, capital and largest city of Sweden. Stockholm is located at the junction of Lake Mälar(Mälaren) and Salt Bay (Saltsjön), an arm of the Baltic Sea, opposite the Gulf of Finland. The city is built upon numerous islands as well as the mainland of Uppland and Södermanland.
We did make a stop to get some shots back to the city center.
Our hotel is in a wonderful location for exploring in foot. (red mark on map above)
Once we checked in, we went next to the hotel which is called Gallerian. It is a shopping mall with many options for a quick meal. (Our early start had prevented us from getting breakfast at the hotel. The box snack they provided was not much.) Ii was about 2 pm. We got it to go and went outside on a bench to enjoy the sun.
This shows the from of the hotel.
We walked to the information center. Construction and road (sidewalk) closures turned it into more of an adventure. Once we returned with information (and questions) we decided to explore the old part of Stockholm - Gamla Stan.
The Royal Palace
More interesting architecture
Stortorget
Statue of St George and the Dragon
Storkyrkan - the Oldest church in Gamla Stan
We decided to stop to rest and get some dinner - it was nice sitting outside. It was located in Järntorget (Swedish: The Iron Square).
While we eating we saw a couple of tour groups stop and spend time at this house and statue.
Further investigation as we left the area --- On Number 84 is Södra Bankohuset, the oldest national bank building in the world.
1985 statue of Evert Taube - a Swedish author
Interesting narrow streets, some commercial - some not.
Nice view looking at the City Hall on our way back to the hotel.
Early start to the day and 6 miles of walking - we are tired.
