Jun 4 - Stockholm and archipelago by boat

The clouds of morning gave way to a glorious sunny warm day.  We decided to take advantage of the weather and book two water tours.

At 10 am we walked to Strömkajen and boarded a boat for the "Under the Bridges" tour of Stockholm.  This 2.25 hour trip took us by some interesting city sights.

We start in the Baltic Sea ( Östersjön in Swedish).

We are not alone in the harbor area.  There are actually 5 ships in Stockholm today.  Not all are this close.

Sailing by Djurgården with Nordiska Museet and the Vasa Museum.

Here we are sailing by the lower end of the island Skeppsholmen - Kastellholmen

Love this hotel - they say right on the building that they are an elite hotel.

We have to do through a lock to continue our jour to Lake Mälaren which is about a meter higher.

Along the lake are interesting buildings  (mostly residential) - ranging in style from very modern to very historic looking and everything in between.

These are just before the City Hall - on the lake.

Back to the City Hall and a view of Gamla Stan from the lake.

Back around to the lock and a return to the Baltic.

We are soon back to where we started ---

It's 12:15 pm.  Time for lunch and a walk to Nybroplan to get ready for our afternoon cruise - an Archipelago cruise.  This 2.75 hour trip will take us out and around several islands to Vaxholm and back.

The sun was out, temperature was warm and we were able to get seats on the upper stern level outside.  Out of the city it was nature with a variety of interesting homes on different islands.

Not all islands were developed.

That doesn't mean there weren't residents.

Loved the humor of this construction site.

We were not alone on the water.

This huge thing sailed by ---

Past the old age home and back to where we started.

We got back about 4:30pm.  Out day wasn't over.  We walked to the Vasa Museum before having dinner and returning to the hotel.  That museum will have to wait until tomorrow.  Another 5+ mile day,
