May 20 - Walking Copenhagen

We arrived this morning in beautiful Copenhagen, Denmark.

We were driven into the city from the airport and dropped our stuff off at the hotel by midmorning.  Although we were tired (we had now been up for about 24 hours, we grabbed our cameras and headed out on foot to explore.

We decided to visit the Rundetaarn (Round Tower).  It was completed in 1642.

A spiral walkway allows visitors to reach the tower platform 34.8 meters (112 ft)  above the street which gives  360° view of the city.

What seemed to really stand out were the many towers on the skyline.

Since the day was sunny we walked further to the Nyhaven,  the 17th century harbor and canal area of Copenhagen which is now an entertainment center.

It was now early afternoon, time to return to the hotel to check in and rest for awhile before the formal meeting of the group.  By the time we got there we had walked 5.7 miles since landing in Frankfort early in the morning.  Although we did some walking in the Frankfort and Copenhagen airports, most of it was done on the streets of Copenhagen.

After some rest and a time to clean up, we met with our guide and the remainder of the group.  After a brief orientation we walked to Tivoli Garden for dinner.  Following the meal we did a group walk-around.  It is definitely a neat place.

"Tivoli (or often in English: Tivoli Gardens) is an amusement park and pleasure garden in CopenhagenDenmark. The park opened on 15 August 1843 and is the second-oldest operating amusement park in the world,  after Dyrehavsbakken in nearby Klampenborg, also in Denmark."

We walked back to the hotel happy to finally get to bed.  A lot of footwork - about 7.5 miles (including aiport).

  1. This brings back such memories. We only spent one night in Copenhagen the last time we were there, but we all had such a good time in Tivoli.
