Today we got to experience what seems to be typical western fjord weather - a little bit of everything. Sometimes it just depended on which direction we were facing.
At the start of our drive

Blue sky behind the falls - different weather to the left or right.
There was a walkway up to and behind the falls.
nice sheep farm here |
Steinsdal Bru (Bridge) |
Our next stop was the Steinsø Frukgard (fruit farm).
Here are grown strawberries, raspberries, sweet cherries, plums, summer apples and summer pears. The apple cake, apple juice and apple cider we were served as part of the tour was delicious. We had entertaining talks by brother and sister who run the operation. They do not sell to stores, etc. They have a shop and cafe on the roadside and a restaurant in the basement of one of the farm houses. And they run guided tours for groups.
This apple and pear tree are over 100 years old.
Located on the Hardanger Fjord, the views were fantastic.
They kept changing with the weather.
Our next stop was the Hardanger Akvasenter, a salmon farm in the fjord.
Because we had to walk out onto floating walkway we had to wear life jackets.
A visitor centre has been set up at a fullyoperational aquaculture unit, the first of its kind in Norway. The guided tour on the salmon farm includes feeding the fish and seeing monitoring systems. Learn about the salmon lifecycle from hatchery to served delicacy. Groups may book catering in advance as a part of the visit.
We stopped on our way out to feed the salmon causing them to be more "playful."
Our journey continued along the Hardanger fjord and then onto an offshoot of the main body.
Our hotel for the next two nights is right on the water. Although our rooms are mountainside not fjord side, it is a fabulous place.
