The first sight we were alerted to was Oscarborg Fortress. The fortress is best known for sinking the German heavy cruiser Blücher on 9 April 1940. The sinking slowed the Germans and allowed the king and queen to escape to England.
More little islands.
Getting ready to dock in Oslo, Norway.
Once we got off the ferry, we boarded our bus and headed off on our next adventure. Bus views along the way. Most of the way we drove along Lake Mjøsa.
We also saw farms as we drove along.
After lunch we stopped in Lillehammer (remember the 1994 water Olympics.) The torch was much plainer than we see today.
One of the indoor arenas.
Looking back at the town of Lillehammer and the lake.
The ski jump.
John and Gus practicing for the next winter games.
Our next stop was at the Maihaugen Museum. It is an open-air museum showing older Norwegian buildings. We toured the stave church, a school house, and a farm.
We continued another 1.5 hours to the ski town of Gålå. The the views from the hotel were fabulous.
The lake view were especially dramatic and kept changing as the weather cleared.
We had to stay up long enough for the sunset.
